Acts xiii. 7.ELYMAS, otherwise Bar-jesus, a Magician, who seduced Sergius Paulus, the Proconsul or Governour of the Isle of Cyprus. The word Elymas in Arabic signifies a Magician. This Magician therefore resisting Paul, and endeavouring to divert Sergius Paulus from embracing Christianity, Paul cast his eyes upon him, and struck him with blindness. This miracle made so strong an impression upon the Proconsul, that he was converted. See BAR-JESUS.
