I. EGLON, King of the Moabites, oppressed the Israelites for eight years. Eglon Judges iii. 12, 13, 14.being in league with the Ammonites and Amalekites, advanced as far as the City of Palm-trees, that is to say, Jericho, or En-gedi, whereof he made himself master. His general residence was at Jericho, and the Lord raised up Ehud to deliver his people from the oppression of the Moabites. In the Article of EHUD, we shall relate the particular manner, wherein he put Eglon to death. The servitude of the Israelites under the Moabites continued from the year of the World 2591 to 2599, before Jesus Christ 1401, before the Vulgar Æra 1405.
