Echo

ECHO. There is mention of an Echo in the book of Wisdom ch. xvii. 19. a rebounding Echo from the hollow mountains. The Greek word Echos signifies no more than barely noise. But Echo is the name of a Nymph who was metamorphosed into a stone, and retained nothing but her voice.

Ovid. Metam. l.3.Nec prior ipsa locui didicit resonabilis Echo,
Corpus adhuc Echo, non vox erat, & tamen usum
Garrula non alium, quàm nunc habet, oris habebat.
