Dura

DURA, a great Plain in the neighbourhood of Babylon, where Nebuchadnezzar appointed an Image of gold, of threescore cubits in height, and six in breadth, to be erected, and worshipped by all his subjects; which Shadrach, Meshech, and Abednego refusing to do, they were cast into a fiery furnace, out of which they came unhurt Dan. iii. 1, & seq.and safe.

The Hebrews believe, that the Resurrection mentioned in Ezekiel xxxvii. happened in this plain of Dura; but it is more probable, that the Resurrection here spoken of was only figurative, and seen no otherwise than in a vision. God hereby intended to declare to Ezekiel the future return of the Jews from their captivity.
