DRAGON. The Dragon mentioned in the book of Nehemiah, lay to the east of Jerusalem. Nehemiah going out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the Dragon’s-well, and to the dung-port. This well is still shewn in a sort of subterraneous cave, into which people descend by twenty steps. The Turks call it Mary’s well, and believe that the blessed Virgin made use of it for the occasions of her house and family.
