Diklah

DIKLAH, the seventh son of Joktan. The descendants of Diklah are placed either in Arabia the Happy, which abounds in palm-trees, called Dikla in Chaldee and Syriack; or in Assyria, where the town of Degla is to be met with.

To DILATE, Dilatare. This word is principally set apart to signify, the dilatadilatation of the Heart, which happens in occasions of prosperity and joy, opposite to that contraction and oppression of the heart which happens in adversity. In tribulatione Psalm. iv. 2. 2 Cor. vi. 11.dilatasti mihi. And St. Paul, Cor nostrum dilatatum est. Dilatare is used likewise for extending one’s limits, and carrying one’s conquests into a foreign country. Dilatet Dominus Japhet: May God give him a Gen. ix. 27. Exod. xxxiv. 24.large inheritance. Cum dilatavero terminos tuos: When I shall have enlarged thy borders.

Dilatare os, to open one’s mouth, is If. lvii. 4.taken in a good and bad part, Against whom hast thou opened thy mouth? Whom Ps. xxxiv. 21.hast thou humbled? Dilataverunt super me os suum: they opened their mouth against me, they affronted me with their words. Ps. lxxx. 11.And in another sense, Dilata os tuum & implebo illud. Open thy mouth and I will fill it, like a child who requires to eat, and receives nourishment from his mother or Prov. xx. 19.nurse. The wise man says, Meddle not with him that openeth his lips, with the babbler; in the Hebrew, with him who deceiveth with his lips.

Hell hath enlarged herself, and opened If. v. 14. Habak. ii. 5.her mouth without measure; to receive the bravest and most powerful of my people: the grave hath opened its mouth, it is ready to swallow up an infinite number of the dead: it desires no more than to devour, and absorb them.

Ps. xviii. 36.Thou hast enlarged my steps, thou hast rescued me from the perplexity, the oppression I was under, thou hast set me at liberty.
