Cyaxares Ii

CYAXARES II. Son and Successor of Astyages King of the Medes, observing the great progress which was made by Evilmerodach King of the Assyrians, or Belshazar his Son, called Cyrus to his assistance, who was his Nephew, the Son of Cambyses King of the Persians, and Mandane the Daughter of King Astyages, and consequently Sister to Cyaxares. They jointly attacked Babylon, as may be seen under the Articles Belshazar and Babylon, in the year of the World 3448. Xenophon says, that Cyrus left the Government of the Kingdom of Babylon to his Uncle Cyaxares, who held it only two years, he dying in 3468, before Jesus Christ 550. This Cyaxares goes likewise by the name of Darius the Mede; and under this Article we shall speak of him.
