Coptæ

COPTÆ. The Egyptians who profess Christianity are called thus at this day. This name is derived probably from Aiguptos, or Aicuphtos, by cutting off the first syllable Ai. There is frequent mention of Egypt in the Scripture, under the name of Misraïm in those Books which are written in the Hebrew, and of Aigyptos in those written in Greek.
