Copher

COPHER. It is said in Cant. i. 14. My Beloved is to me as a cluster of Copher in the vineyards of Engedi. Copher is translated Cyprus in the Vulgate. Botrus Cypri. Now the Cypress Tree is a Shrub that grows as high as a Pomegranate Tree, its Leaves are like those of the Olive Tree, its Blossom is white and sweet, and its Fruit hangs like clusters of Grapes, and is of a very agreeable scent. When its leaves are dry and bruised, they make a yellow powder, with which the Egyptians and Turks painted their nails, and the Women among them their hands, part of their hair, and of their body.
