Contradiction

CONTRADICTION. Waters of Strife, or Contradiction. This is the name of the place where Moses encamped when he smote the Rock with his Rod, and water thereupon issued out of it, where also he expressed some diffidence of God’s Promises: For which reason God declared to him, that he should never enter into the Land of Promise. This happened in the Desert of Paran, when the Israelites were encamped at Kadesh; and these Waters were called the Waters of Strife; because they rebell’d against Moses, and murmured against the Lord.
