CHRYSOLITE, a precious Stone, the tenth fixed upon the High-Priest’s Pectoral, with the name of Zebulun engraven on it. This Stone is transparent, of the colour of Gold, with a mixture of green in it, which casts a fine lustre. The Hebrew word is Tarshish, which the Septuagint and S. Jerom translate sometimes Carbuncle; the Rabbins in their explanation of it, will have it to be the Beryl. But we may be very certain that they do not know well what it is.
