Cayro

CAYRO, or Cairo. The great City of Cairos is at this day called Mezer by the Arabians. Some say it is the ancient Memphis, others that it is Babylon in Egypt. See Memphis and Babylon. The name of Cairo is no where to be met with in the Scripture, because it is more modern than the sacred Books of the Old and new Testament. Memphis was situated upon the western shore of the Nile, whereas Cairo lies to the East of this river. Babylon was seated very near the place, where we now see the ruins of old Cairo. There is a particular place shewn there, where our Saviour is said to have abode some time during his retreat in Egypt.
