I. CATHOLICK. This term is originally Greek. It signifies universal or general. The Church of Jesus Christ is called Catholick, because it extends throughout the world, and is not limited by time. We say some truths are catholick, because they are received by all the Faithful. Catholick is often set in opposition to Heretick, or Sectary, and to Schismatick or one separated from the true Church.
