Cana

CANA, in Galilee, a little Town, where Jesus performed his first Miracle. Cana is John ii. 1, 2, &c.said to lye between Sephoris and Nazareth, six Miles westward from Sephoris. In the same Canton we meet with Sepher-Cana, four Miles from Nazareth, northward, a little veering to the East. Josephus speaks likewise of a Town called Cana1: But I should take this rather to be Kenath. Others discover another Cana somewhere towards Sidon; and they pretend, that the Woman of Canaan, Mat. xv. 21.whose Faith was admired by our Saviour, was of this place; but they have no solid Mark vii. 24. Gen. ix. 25.Foundation for this conjecture.
