Calamus

CALAMUS, a sort of Measure; in Ezek. xl. 3. Rev. xi. 1.Hebrew Canna1. Ezekiel and S. John in the Revelations speak of this measuring Reed.2 Ezekiel says, it was six Cubits long, and an Hand-breadth; or rather six Cubits and six Hand-breadths; that is to say, six Hebrew Cubits, every one whereof is larger by an Hand-breadth, than a Babylonish Cubit. The Prophet is obliged thus to determine the Cubit he is speaking of; because he was at that time beyond the Euphrates; and the Measures of that Country were not so large as those of Palestine. The Hebrew Cubit contained four and twenty Inches, or six Hand-breadths; or about twenty Inches and an half, reckoning twelve Lines to the Inch.
