In this Comment he examines by whom, to whom, at what time, and upon what occasion, this Epistle was written. The Remarks upon all the Verses are framed with great erudition and accuracy. The Style is pure, the Expressions very clear, and without any affectation.

Samuel Szattmar, a Lutheran, wrote an Explanation in Latin; printed at Franekar, 1700, in 4to. The Genius of an able Critick may be said to be discernible in it: It were only to be wished, that there were fewer mistaken Prejudices in it against the Catholick Church, and the Pope’s Primacy; and that, in his attempt to confute the Arminians, as to the Article of Predestination, and the Distribution of Grace, he had not fallen into the contrary Extreme, which at present is abhorr’d by almost the whole Protestant Party.
