Æ Gidius Strauchius, mentioned by us on the Old Testament, wrote upon the Birth of Emanuel, upon the Messiah’s Country, upon his Flight into Egypt, and last Passover, upon the time of his Passion and Death; printed at Wittemberg, 1654, and 1659. in two Volumes in 4to. 1661, ibid. in 4to. and at Lipsick, 1661, 1666, in two Volumes in 4to. An Exercitation on Christ’s sweating Blood, and upon the Angel sent to comfort him; ibid. 1680, in 4to. in the second Tome of the Philological Dissertations.

Michael Foerschius, a German Lutheran, has explain’d the 37th and 38th Verses of the 20th Chapter of St. Luke; at Jena, 1707, in 4to. Henry Gebhard, of whom we have spoken upon the Old Testament, has explain’d the Name of Beelzebub, mention’d in chap. 15. ver. 11. printed at Grypswald, 1707, in 4to.

John Ernest Gerhard has written upon the Blessed Virgin over-shaddowed by the Most High, according to the Angel’s Promise, recorded by St. Luke; printed at Jena, 1665, in 4to. the second Edition. We have said something of this Author too upon the Old Testament.

John Henry May, of whom we have taken notice on St. Matthew, has treated of the Eagle, in chap. 18. of St. Luke, and the last Verse; printed at Giessen, 1686, in 4to.

John Mallement, Canon of St. Opportune, has written five critical Letters upon several Passages of St. Luke: They are in the Journals of Trevoux. The first in the Month of July, 1708. the second, ibid. in the Month of December; the third in the Month of August; the fourth in the Month of September; the fifth in the Month of November, 1709. The Particulars of them may be seen in this Work.

John Frederick Mayer has written upon Anna the Prophetess; printed at Grypswald, 1706, in 4to. Upon the twelfth Year of Jesus Christ, ibid. Upon the Assembly at Tabor; at Hamburgh, 1688, in 4to. Upon the bloody Sweat; at Grypswald, 1707, in 4to. Upon the Angel sent to comfort Christ; at Wittemberg, 1683, in 4to. See his Title in the Index.

Daniel Papebroch, in his Apparatus to the Chronology of the Popes, p. 25. in the Lives of the Saints for the Month of May, has inserted a Letter relating to the 30th Year of Jesus Christ, and an Exercitation upon his near Relations; ibid. p. 31. He was a Fleming of Antwerp; and died a Jesuit in 1714.

Sebastian Schmid, often mentioned by us, has explain’d the Hymn of Benedictus, in the first Chapter of St. Luke. Frederick Lampius has made Observations, in particular, upon the Horn of Salvation mentioned in this Hymn, ver. 69. printed in the Bibliotheca Philologica, t. 2. p. 680, 706. They are various, and contain twelve Articles.

John Schmid has made an Exegesis upon the 28th Verse of the 9th Chapter; ibid. 1726, in 4to. See upon the Epistle to the Hebrews.

Paul Slevogt, spoken of by us upon St. Matthew, made a Dissertation upon the twenty-four Courses of the Priests, mentioned by St. Luke; printed at Jena, 1629, in 4to.Theodore Hasæus, already cited several times by us, made a Dissertation on the ninetyninety-nine righteous Persons who had no need of Repentance, mentioned in St. Luke, ch. 15. ver. 7. In it he explains likewise the Passage of St. Paul to the Hebrews, ch. 12. ver. 23. where there is mention made of the Souls of just Men. This Dissertation is printed in the Bibliotheca Philologica, tom. 1. part. 2. p. 99, 137. Herein he attacks those who use this Passage in St. Luke to support their Errors relating to Original Sin, which they believe not to be communicated to all Mankind; and concerning Baptism, which they believe not to be necessary to all Men, since there are some just Persons who do not sin.

He has likewise written several other Works upon the Scripture, which are spoken of in the same Collection, p. 560, 561. of the fourth Part.
