ST. Jerom, and Theodoret, have explained Daniel. Cotelerius printed an Explanation in Greek and Latin, under the Name of St. Chrysostom; and F. Dom. Montfaucon has since inserted it in his new Edition of this Father’s Works, tom. 6. p. 199. with learned Notes, and an Advertisement, wherein he speaks his Sentiments of the Author. He is almost inclined to believe that St. Chrysostom himself wrote it, tho there are many Things which seem to contradict this Opinion.
Benedict Pererius has a Comment which was printed first at Rome, in 1586, in fol. and afterwards with his other Works. Abbot Joachim, whose Comment was printed at Venice, in 1519. Arias Montanus, at Antwerp, 1562, in 8vo.
Gaspar Sanctius, Cornelius à Lapide, John Maldonat, Luke of Bruges, Hector Pintus, whose Comments upon Daniel are printed with those which they have written upon the other Prophets.
Celada has explain’d what relates to the History of Susannah in his Comment printed at Lyons, 1656, in fol. We have spoken of him above. See his Title in the Index.
To these we may add James Weld, who, with his Comment, joined a chronological Piece, which is of use to understand the Prophecies of Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel; at Antwerp, 1602, in 8vo. He was of Bruges in Flanders, an Augustinian; and died at St. Omers in 1588. or 1583, according to Valerius Andreas, in his Bibliotheca Belgica, p. 433. where he takes notice of his other Works.
