Herein he explains the figurative use of the ceremonial Laws, and unravels many difficult Cases. He died a Lutheran, in 1628. at 64 Years of Age.

Valens Albert has added a Preface to it, wherein he treats of the necessity of knowing the Laws, and their usefulness; as John Fabricius informs us in the History of his Library, tome 4. p. 39.

Valent. Greissing, de immolatione liberorum Molocho facta, in Thesaur. Theol. Philol.

Joan. Seldeni, de Diis Syris, c. 6. and Andrew Beyer’s Additions. We shall have occasion often to speak of Selden, and it may be proper for the Reader to know something of him. He was a Man of very great Learning, extremely well vers’d in the Jewish Laws and Antiquities; the Oriental Languages were familiar to him; and the Works which he has published upon the Greek Antiquities demonstrate, that his Knowledge was as eminent in this way as in the Antiquities of Scripture: but he is a negligent, obscure, and perplexed Writer. He often leaves the matter in hand, and falls into Digressions; and there is very little Order or Method in his Works.

Upon the Leprosy, and other different Subjects.

Sountage wrote concerning the Punishment of Nadab and Abihu, being a Disputation on the tenth Chapter of Leviticus; at Altorf, 1692, in 4to. And Olaus Eric Torme treated of the Sacrifice Minhha, upon the third chapter; at Franeker, 1662, in 4to. He was a Dane, and a Lutheran.

John Benedict Carpzovius made a Dissertation on the 44th verse of the 26th chapter, intitled, Aurea Simia Judæorum; to denote the wrong Interpretation they give to this Passage, pretending to discover in it that the Messiah is not come, and that he will conduct them back into the Land of Canaan. This learned Dissertation is in the 10th Tome of the great Criticks, of the new Edition, page 345. and had been printed before at Lipsick, 1681, in 4to.
