Borith

BORITH. There is mention of the herb Borith in Jeremiah xi. 22. Si multiplicaveris tibi herbam Borith, maculata es iniquitate tua. The herb Borith is thought to be the Kali or Saltwort, of the ashes whereof some make Soap, and a very good Lye to wash Linen withal. It is confidently affirmed, that the leaves of Saltwort bruised and rub’d with the hand, take spots out of the Skin. John Michael Langius has made a large Dissertation on the herb Borith. We have a long discourse on it in our Comment on Jeremiah, Chap. xi. 22.
