BEZEK, or Beseca, Bezeca, Bezaca, or Bezecath. Some are of opinion that Adonibezek, who was taken and put to Judg. i. 4, 5, 6, 7.death by the Children of Judah, and valued himself upon his cruel treatment of the seventy Kings, the extremities of whose hands and feet were cut off by his order, was king of Bezek, and that this city was the capital of his Kingdom. Saul before he marched against Jabesh Gilead, reviewed his army at 1 Sam. xi. 8.Bezek. Eusebius says, that there are two cities of this name pretty near one another, seven miles distant from Sichem, in the way to Scythopolis. We are of opinion, that Bezek or Bezekat, was indeed situated somewhere near the passage of the river Jordan, which was at Scythopolis, or thereabouts.
