BETH-AGABRA, or methogabri, or Bethogabria. Peutinger’s Tables place Bethogabri between Askelon and Jerusalem. Ptolemy puts down Bethogotria at 65½. degree of latitude, and the 31½ of longitude. Josephus1 fixes Begabris in the midst of Idumæa. William of Tyre says, that the Arabians called Beersheba, Bethgabril, and that it was twelve miles from Askelon. Benjamin tells us, that Bethgaberin is five parasangs from Hebron, and is the same as Maresa; and the acts of S. Ananias place it in the territory of Eleutheropolis. All these characters joined together, determine us to set it down between Eleutheropolis and Hebron.
