Azariah (XI)

2 Chron. xv. 1, &c.XI. AZARIAH, a Prophet, the Son of Oded, went by God’s appointment to meet Aza King of Judah, as he returned after his succes against Zerah King of Ethiopia. Azariah addressed himself to Asa and his people, saying, The Lord hath assisted you, because you adhered to him. If ye seek him, ye will find him; but if ye forsake him, he will abandon you. Israel for a long time shall be without the true God, without Priests, Teachers, or Law. If they return to the Lord in their affliction, they will find him. At this time terror shall overspread all the inhabitants of the Earth, nation shall rise up against nation, and city against city. But for your part, take courage; let not your hands be weakened, and your perseverance shall be rewarded. These words inspired Asa with new zeal, and he began to destroy all the remaining idols in his Dominions. This is all we know of this Prophet. The particular we have related happened in the year of the world 3126, before J. C. 974, before the vulgar Æra 978.
