Aulon

AULON. This is the name which in Eusebius’s and S. Jerom’s time1 was given to that vast Valley which reaches along the river Jordan, from Libanus to the wilderness of Paran. This name seems to be derived from the Greek Aulos, which is taken for a Valley. The great plain and valley which lies between Libanus and Antilibanus is likewise called Aulon2.
