Coloff. iv. 10. Philemon. v. 24. Acts xix. & xx. 5. xxvii. 2.ARISTARCHUS, spoken of by S. Paul in his Epistles to the Coloffians and Philemon, and often mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles, was a Macedonian, and a native of Theffalonica. He accompanied S. Paul to Ephefus, and there continued with him for the two years of his abode there, partaking with him in all the dangers and labours of the Apostleship. He was very near being killed in a tumult raised by the Ephefian Goldsmiths. He left this City with the Apostle, and went along with him into Greece. From thence he followed him into Afia, from Afia into Judæa, and from Judæa to Rome. Ado and the Roman Martyrology make him Bishop of Theffalonica: but the Greeks fay he was Bishop of Apamea in Syria, and was beheaded with S. Paul at Rome in Nero’s reign; continuing to the very last constantly attached to the Apostle.
