Antiochus Ii (II)

II. ANTIOCHUS II. Sirnamed Theos, God, the Son and Successor of Antiochus Soter, third King of Syria, married Berenice the daughter of Ptolemy Philadelphus King of Egypt. Laodice his first Wife seeing herself despis’d poisoned Antiochus, Berenice, and their Son, who was designed for their Successor in the Kingdom. After this Laodice procured Seleucus Callinicus, her Son by the same Antiochus to be acknowledged King of Syria. These events were foretold by Daniel in these terms. Dan. ix. 6.And in the end of years the King of Egypt, or of the South, and the King of Syria, or of the North, shall make an Alliance together, and the King’s Daughter of the South shall come to the King of the North to make an Agreement: but she shall not retain the Power of them, neither shall he stand, nor his arm; but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times.
