ANA. We are acquainted with a City of this name at the extremity of Arabia deserta, upon the Euphrates. Tavernier says it takes up the two banks of this river much as Paris lies upon the two banks of the Seine; but another Traveller writes to me, that it takes up but one of the banks of the Euphrates, and has but one Street, which is extremely large. There is a very fine mosque in an island which lies near to it. The land about it for half a league is well cultivated, but beyond this distance there is nothing but frightful desarts.
