Allush

ALLUSH, or Alush. The Israelites being in the Wilderness of Shur, departed Numb. xxxiii. 13. Judith i. 9. in Græco.from Dophkah, and went to Allush: From thence they proceeded to Rephidim. In the book of Judith Chellus or Chalus, and Kades, are set down as two places pretty near each other. Eusebius and St. Jerom fix Allush in Idumea, towards the Country about Gabala, that is to say, about Petra, the capital of Arabia Petræa; for according to Eusebius and St. Jerom, the Gabalene is near Petra1. Allush is called likewise Eluza or Chaluza. In the accounts of the Empire, it is situated in the third Palestine, and by Ptolemy among the Cities of Idumæa. The Jerusalem Targum upon Genesis xxv. 18. and upon Exodus xvi. 22. translates the desart of Seir by Allush.
