Alexas

ALEXAS, the third Husband of Salome, Sister to Herod the Great. Alexas and Salome were the Persons to whom Herod the Great sent orders for executing those Jews of the first rank whom he had confin’d in the Hippodrom at Jericho, as soon as he expired; that all Judæa being afflicted at the death of so many Persons of quality, might appear at least to be then mourning for their King. But Alexas, instead of obeying such cruel orders, set them all at liberty as soon as the King’s eyes were closed; whereby he procured the esteem and friendship of all the Jews1, in the year of the World 4000, of J.C. 1, before the vulgar Æra 5.
