Africa

AFRICA, one of the four parts of the World. It was peopled principally by Ham Gen. x. 6, 13, 14.and his Descendants. Mizraim peopled Egypt. The Pathrusim, the Naphluhim, the Casluhim and the Ludim, peopled other parts of this Country; the limits whereof are not at this day known distinctly. We place Lebabim in Libya, and Phut between Numidia and Libya, along the Mediterranean. It is thought that many of the Canaanites, being driven out of their Country by Joshua, retired into Africk1. The Mahometans believe likewise, that the Amalekites, who dwelt in ancient times in the neighbourhood of Mecca, were forced from thence by the Kings descended from Zioram2. This matter may be seen treated at large in our Dissertation concerning the Country whither the Canaanites retired, printed before the Book of Joshua.
