- ADRAMMELECH, the Son of Sennacherib,If. xxxvii. 38. King of Assyria. This King returning 2 Kings xix. ult.to Nineveh after the unhappy Expedition which he had made into Judæa against King Hezekiah, was killed by his two Sons Adrammelech and Sharezer, while he was at his devotions in the Temple of his God Nisroch. It is not known what induced these two Princes to commit this parricide: Some conjecture that they were ingaged to it by a report that Sennacherib had vowed to sacrifice them to his Gods; but of this conjecture there is no Proof. What we know certainly is, that these two Princes, after they had murdered their Father, fled for safety to the mountains of Armenia, and that Esar-haddon their Brother succeeded to the Crown. The death of Sennacherib is placed in the year of the World 3295, before Jesus Christ 705, before the vulgar Æra 709. Adrammelech and Sharezer, the Sons of Sennacherib, are called in Said Son of Batrick, Anzarmelach, and Serassera: The last of these names comes very near that of Siassernera, which the Arabians give King Sennacherib.
