Adah (I)

I. ADAH, one of Lamech’s two Wives, Gen. iv. 19.was the Mother of Jabel and Jubal. The names of the rest of her Children (for it is presumed that she had more) are no where mentioned. One day, upon what occasion Ch. iv. 23.we are not told, Lamech said to his two Wives Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice, ye Wives of Lamech, hearken unto my Speech; for I have slain a Man to my wounding, and a young Man to my hurt. If Cain shall be avenged seven-fold, truly Lamech seventy and seven fold. See the Conjectures of Commentators on this matter.
