Ackshaph

Ch. xii. 20. Akshaph. אכשף Ch. xix. 29. אכזיב Akzib.ACKSHAPH, a City belonging to the Tribe of Asher. The King of Ackshaph was conquer’d by Joshua. Some are of opinion that Ackshaph is the same as Ecdippa, a Town of note upon the Mediterranean, between Tyre and Ptolemais: Others will have it that Ecdippa is described in Joshua under the name of Achzib. The Arabians at this day call a Place three hours distant from Ptolemais, towards the North, Zib, which is the place where formerly stood Ecdippa. It is probable enough that Ackshaph and Achzib are but different names for the same Town of Ecdippa, upon the Coast of Phœnicia.
