Achiab

ACHIAB, Nephew to Herod the Great, and Governour of one of the Fortresses of Jerusalem. Herod falling sick at Samaria, Achiab prevented Alexandra the Mother of Mariamne, in her design of seizing the several Fortresses of Jerusalem1. Upon another occasion he hinder’d his Uncle Herod from laying violent hands upon himself, and killing himself as he intended in his excess of Grief, with a short Sword which he held in his hand2. He likewise render’d ineffectual the efforts of two thousand Men, who kept the field, and sought an opportunity to attack him3.
