Abimelech

ABIMELECH. The Priest of the Lord, who gave Goliath’s Sword to David, at the time when this Prince was flying from the Persecutions of Saul. Several Latin Copies read Abimelech; the Septuagint do the same. But in the Hebrew it is Achimelech, and this is the true Reading. See hereafter ACHIMELECH. He is called Abiathar in the Gospel of St. Mark, c. xi. 26.
