Abijah (1)

  1. ABIJAH, the Son of Jeroboam, who was the first King of the ten Tribes. This young Prince was seized with a very dangerous Disease; and his Mother having disguised herself, in order to go and ask the Prophet Ahijah whether he would recover; Abijah answer’d, that he would die, that he would be the only Person of his Family who should receive Funeral Honours, and be lamented by all Israel; but that all the other Descendants from Jero boam should be either eaten by Dogs, or devoured by Birds, as a Punishment of his Impiety and Ingratitude. Abijah on his Mother’s Return died, in the Year of the World 3046, before Jesus Christ 954, before the vulgar Æra 958.
