Deut. xxxii. 19. xxxiv. 1. 2 Macc. xi. 4.ABARIM, Mountains beyond Jordan, spreading far into the Tribe of Reuben, and the Country of the Moabites, on both Sides the River Arnon: They were composed of many little Hills, under different Names. It is impossible to describe exactly the Extent of them; Eusebius and St. Jerom speak of them in several Places. Eusebius1 fixes them at six Miles Distance Westward from Hesbbon, and seven from Livias Eastward2. The Mountains Nebo, Pisgah, and Peor, were Parts of the Abarim. Upon Nebo Moses died, and in the same Mountains Jeremiah concealed the Ark, when the Chaldæans took Jerusalem. Abarim in Hebrew signifies Passengers, or Passages.
