The written attestation [Syngrapha] of the theologians whom — according to the pious ordinances of the Order of Preachers — the Reverend Father John Mary of Lignasco [Lignascensis], Provincial, superior [Antistes] of both Lombardies, chose for the examination [recognition] of this work.
HAVING BEEN ordered (Libros… iussi) by our Reverend Father Provincial of both Lombardies, Father Friar John Mary of Lignasco, of the Order of Preachers, to examine the eight books of the Bibliotheca Sancta of the Reverend Father Friar Sixtus of Siena, of the Order of Preachers, a most excellent preacher — so that they might, as soon as possible, be sent forth into the light [published] — we took care to accomplish this not undiligently [i.e. with all diligence]. Those [books], therefore, having been read through by us, we give assurance [certify] that nothing is asserted in them by the author himself — so far as we ourselves are able to judge — which is adverse to good morals, or to the catholic doctrine of the sacrosanct Roman Church. For the rest, we judge that the labors of so learned a father, so great [as they are], if they be publicly printed, will be exceedingly welcome, and useful, to pious and learned men.
