THE FIRST SUPPUTATION, enumerating the books of the old Testament as TWENTY-TWO, according to the number of the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew Alphabet, with the Jewish inscriptions [titles] of the books adjoined.

## THE SECOND SUPPUTATION, according to the twenty-four Hebrew elements, which result from the twenty-one [sic — twenty-two] Jewish characters and from the letter Iod thrice repeated for reverence of the divine name. It contains the books of the old Testament as twenty-four: whose number answers also to the twenty-four letters of the Alphabet of the Greeks, among whom the Greek inscriptions of the books are these:

Now let us briefly say into how many and what kinds of partitions the same holy volumes are wont to be distributed, by the Greek as well as by the Latin and Hebrew authors.
