QUAESTIO CLXXVIII. Qualiter comprehendat in se benedictionem datam Benjamin?

Sequitur de benedictione Benjamin. Genes. XLIX, 27: Benjamin lupus rapax, mane comedet praedam, et vespere dividet spolia.

Haec benedictio in tribus consistit. Primum, perditorum omnium a culpa ereptio. Secundum, de ereptione gratulatio in gratia. Tertium, in futuro omnium et singulorum glorificatio in gloria.

Et haec in beatissima Virgine fuerunt in summo: quia summam in ereptione habuit victoriam, summam de ereptis in praesenti laetitiam, et summam in futuro de omnibus et singulis gloriam. Et sic sua benedictio benedictionem quoque Benjamin includit.

There follows concerning the blessing of Benjamin. Genesis 49:27: Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning he will eat the prey, and in the evening he will divide the spoils.

This blessing consists in three things. First, the snatching of all the lost from fault. Second, rejoicing in grace over the snatching. Third, in the future, the glorification of all and of each in glory.

And these things were in the most blessed Virgin in the highest degree, because she had the highest victory in snatching away, the highest joy in the present over those snatched away, and the highest glory in the future concerning all and each. And thus her blessing also includes the blessing of Benjamin.

But if according to tropology through Joseph is understood the grace of discretion in action, and through Benjamin the grace of knowledge in contemplation, it is also agreed that the most blessed Virgin had these in the highest degree.
