Responsio ad Quaestiones L, LI, etc., de virtutibus cardinalibus.

De virtutibus cardinalibus dicimus, quod habuit eas per modum patriae et secundum statum viae: sed per modum patriae quantum ad actuum perfectionem, per modum viae quantum ad merendi conditionem, et ita habuit eas medio modo inter comprehensores et viatores, medio modo per participationem, talem, inquam, participationem, quod accepit meliorem partem ab utroque extremorum. Comprehensores habent virtutes has secundum actuum perfectionem, sed praeter merendi conditionem: viatores autem cum merendi conditione, sed cum actuum imperfectione: ipsa autem habuit has cum actuum perfectione sicut comprehensores, et cum merendi conditione sicut viatores: unde habuit has excellentius viatoribus quantum ad actum, et comprehensoribus quantum ad effectum. Unde concedimus omnes objectiones ad hoc inductas.

§ III.

Response to Questions L, LI, etc., concerning the cardinal virtues.

Concerning the cardinal virtues we say that she had them through the mode of the homeland and according to the state of the way: but through the mode of the homeland as to the perfection of acts, and through the mode of the way as to the condition of meriting. And so she had them in a middle way between comprehensors and wayfarers, in a middle way through participation, such a participation, I say, that she received the better part from each extreme. Comprehensors have these virtues according to the perfection of acts, but apart from the condition of meriting; wayfarers, however, with the condition of meriting, but with imperfection of acts. But she had these with perfection of acts, as comprehensors do, and with the condition of meriting, as wayfarers do. Hence she had these more excellently than wayfarers as to act, and more excellently than comprehensors as to effect. Hence we grant all the objections brought forward for this.
