Book III: De Iis, Qvæ Post Iordanis Transitvm Contigervnt

De Iis, Qvæ Post Iordanis Transitvm Contigervnt (opening)

[THE SECOND PART OF THE BOOK, ON THOSE THINGS WHICH HAPPENED AFTER THE CROSSING OF THE JORDAN.]

The [things] which happened after the crossing of the Jordan can be reckoned [as] threefold. First, προπολεμικά [propolemika, “the things before the wars”] — that is, [the things] which came to pass before the wars. Then, τὰ πολεμικά [ta polemika, “the war things”] — that is, the wars themselves. Thirdly, τὰ μεταπολεμικά [ta metapolemika, “the post-war things”] — that is, the matters which followed the wars.
