Question VI. Of how many years [old] was Rahab then?

Hugo Broughton, in his Anglican Concent [Harmony] of Scripture, wills [her] to have been of 15 years. For he says: “in the year of Moses 107, [i.e.] the 27th year [before] the Egyptian exit, she [was] born; from which [year], reckoned up to the 40th [year] of the exit, there are 14 years [inclusive]; but at the 41st [year] beginning, the spies came to her, and therefore [she was] of 15 years.” But Rabbi Salomo [Rashi] in [i.e. cited by] Abulensis q. 49, and the Talmudists in Megilla ch. 1 and Mekhilta, and other later Rabbins — as R. Gedaliah [Godolias] in Shalshelet fol. 14 — give her 50 years. For [they] say she whored through the whole time of the Israelites’ peregrination, and began to whore in the tenth year of [her] age. But whence either [view] can be gathered, I do not see. This one [thing] I see: [that] from this entrance into the land, up to David’s nativity, [he] who numbers the fewest years [numbers] nearly 366. But since — Ruth [ch.] last, and Matthew 1 — from her, now the wife of Salmon, was generated Boaz, and Boaz generated Obed, this one [Obed] indeed Jesse, and this one [Jesse] David — [it] appears [that] she was not at all advanced in age [when she married Salmon]. But of this [there] will again, in that place, be more accurately [something] to be discussed.
