In his Evangelical Harmony — while [treating] that most insipid [derivation], about which afterward — the heretic Andreas Osiander brings forth the origination of the name IESUS: about Iehosua he always [contends], about Iesua he never at all disputes [that they are the same]; so that [he seems] either [to think] these two are absolutely the same, or [rather] to have

wandered, or rather to have been ignorant [of the matter]. But behold, most clear light from the Scriptures themselves. Haggai ch. 1, v. 1, the son of Josedech is called High Priest in the Hebrew Iehosua, and afterward always so, both in the same Prophet (v. 12 and 14, and ch. 2, v. 3) and in Zechariah (ch. 2, v. 1, 3, and 8). But in Ezra 3, v. 2, the same [man] is Iesua, and [so] v. 9, ch. 10, [and] 18; Nehemiah ch. 12, v. 26. And the same name can be read [in] Esdras ch. 2, v. 36 and 40; 2 Paralipomenon [Chronicles] 31, v. 15 — where our Interpreter retained the name itself, except that for the last letter he puts e, about which in the following questiuncula.
