A Typological Comparison of JOSHUA, son of Nun, Leader of the Hebrews, with JESUS, Son of God, our Lord.
Joshua, the leader [of the age], bore signs foretelling the true JESUS — [signs] shadowed in mysterious figures.
He indeed, waging God’s sacred wars with heaven as his auspice, shattered walled JERICHO by the roar of men and the sound of trumpets: this One [Christ], consummating the war upon the Cross with a mighty cry, and arming the Twelve Chiefs [the Apostles] with clarions and a sounding voice, subdued Acheron [hell].
The scarlet cord, hanging from the double-open window, delivered RAHAB’s property and kindred from the avenging sword: [so] the purple blood of CHRIST, from his open wound, guards the sick nation of men from the wrath of Satan.

He [Joshua] divided the Palestinian shore [Canaan] for the Hebrews: [but] JESUS [Christ] destines the Empyrean World [heaven] for the victors — so much greater than that [Joshua], and so much more august than he, is JESUS, as it is right to set the Thunderer [God] before a man.
