CCXLVII. Corollary XLIII

COROLLARY XLIII.

The fountain of the appellation having been disclosed, four things above the rest must be established concerning the origin of the consequent will1. First, it must be established that the consequent will is a proper and interior will, not improper and metaphorical. Then it must be established that the supreme origin of this will must be derived from the fact that God is οὐσιωδῶς, essentially, just, that he performs the office and assumes the person of a judge, and that he administers distributive justice most holily. Next it must be established that the consequent will is so constituted that the eternal foreknowledge of those things which men will freely do cannot be separated from it. And finally it must be established that there is something innate in God from which the decree of the consequent will proceeds, but that the decree cannot actually proceed unless the forevision of human works has gone before it as a necessary condition.
