CCXXIV. Corollary XX

COROLLARY XX.

Lest these things be capable of being perverted and twisted into senses alien to the truth, the witnesses of Christian tradition left nothing undone in order to define their force and power most accurately. What universality of time, therefore, is to be understood according to these authors? Namely, such a universality as excludes absolutely no age and no stage of humanity1: not that which preceded the universal flood; not that which elapsed until the law was given; not that which reached unto Christ; not that which will run on until the consummation of the age. But concerning the universality of persons, what must be established and believed? It must be believed that all have been so provided for by merciful love that each individual has been provided for no less. It must be believed that the restored order so pertains to all humanity that it pertains equally to each individual. It must be believed that such is the compass of the restored order that it embraces all and each alike.
