CCXIX. Corollary XIV

COROLLARY XIV.

Moreover, these things are so arranged that they plainly show that the three states of humanity, and indeed most diverse ones, cannot be confounded without danger of error. For there is no one who does not understand how dangerous it is either not to distinguish the state before the fall from that which followed the fall, or to intermingle the state of condemnation and hypothetical with the state of restoration and absolute. But with this distinction established, everyone sees what must be answered to those asking of what kind that state is in which the human race is found. For it must be answered1 that it is a state not hypothetical but absolute, not of condemnation and destruction but of restoration and salvation.
