AUTHORIZATION OF THE MOST REVEREND LORD, LORD STEPHAN WEBER, BISHOP OF MYSIA, SUFFRAGAN OF THE MOST REVEREND AND MOST ILLUSTRIOUS ARCHBISHOP OF MAINZ, DOCTOR OF SACRED THEOLOGY AND CENSOR OF BOOKS.
The ten books of the Politics, composed by the Reverend Father Adam Contzen, priest of the Society of JESUS and Doctor and Ordinary Professor in our fostering Academy of Mainz, and examined and approved by theologians of the same faculty and by others, have been presented to us. We therefore permit them to be committed to print for the common benefit. Since in these books the author discusses the constitution, causes, end, laws, magistrates, and power of the whole commonwealth, and even seditions and wars; and since he demonstrates the rule and method of administering the commonwealth successfully, both from Divine Letters, sacred Councils, the writings of the Fathers, and the decrees of Theology and the Canons, and from natural reason, civil law, the ordinances and deeds of princes, the customs of kingdoms, and examples from ancient and recent history, we trust that they will be useful alike to private persons and to those placed in magistracy. At Mainz, in the year 1621, on the sixth day of May.

I, JOHANN COPPERUS, Provincial of the Society of JESUS on the Rhine, by the authority granted to me by our Very Reverend Father MUTIO VITELLESCHI, Superior General of our Society, permit these ten books of the Politics, composed by Father ADAM CONTZEN, theologian of our Society, and read and approved by the theologians appointed for that purpose, to be committed to print. At Mainz, on the twenty-second day of April, in the year 1620.

Since, by a decree of His Sacred Imperial Majesty, all and singular printers and booksellers, and others engaged in any trade in books whatsoever, are seriously and firmly prohibited from daring or presuming, within the boundaries of the Holy Roman Empire and of the kingdoms and hereditary dominions of His Imperial Majesty, to reprint—whether in a similar or another kind of type or format, whether in whole or in part—any books hitherto published by our Fathers or to be published hereafter; to send them to another to be reprinted; or to import, sell, and distribute copies printed elsewhere, secretly or openly, without the judgment and attestation of the aforesaid Fathers: I, Johann Copperus, Provincial Superior of the Society of JESUS throughout the Province of the Rhine, by the authority granted to me for this purpose by our Very Reverend Father General Mutio Vitelleschi, grant to Johann Kinckius, citizen and bookseller of Cologne, authorization to print these ten books of the Politics, composed by Father Adam Contzen, theologian of our Society, and read and approved by the theologians appointed for that purpose. In attestation of these things, we have desired to give him this certificate, signed by our hand and fortified with our seal. At Mainz, on the twenty-second day of April, in the year 1620.
