1 Chron. xxix. 2. Vulg. אבני פוךSTIBINUS LAPIS. This Word is found in the Chronicles, and signifies literally Stones of Antimony: But ‘tis thought the Text intends Stones of Alabaster. The Hebrew says, Stones of Phuc; but Phuc, in Hebrew, signifies the Colour with which 2 Kings ix. 40. Jerem. iv. 30. Isa. liv. 11.Women painted their Eye-brows, which was of a black Colour. We may see by Isaiah, that they also made Use of Stones of Phuc for Pavements. This should make one conclude, that it signifies Stones of Alabaster.
